About Me
As a clinical professor at 好色tv Grossman School of Medicine, I am dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve their personal goals. My practice focuses on individual and couples鈥 psychotherapy, family psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, and psychopharmacology, including treatments for attention deficit disorder.
I specialize in managing a wide range of mental health challenges, drawing on my extensive experience in emergency departments, inpatient and outpatient environments, shelter-based therapeutic communities, housing programs, and street outreach. With over three decades of experience, I have honed my skills in various therapeutic modalities and psychopharmacology, making me well-equipped to handle complex behavioral health conditions. My credentials include being a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, underscoring my commitment to excellence in the field.
Throughout my career, I have been deeply involved in managing systems of care for people with mental health challenges. My roles have included chief of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur, chief of outpatient and community psychiatry at St. Luke鈥檚-Roosevelt Hospital, and chief medical officer for mental hygiene services at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Currently, I have an additional role as medical director for psychiatry education and special initiatives at the Institute for Community Living. These experiences have enriched my understanding of community mental health and the importance of coordinated, seamless care.
My journey into psychiatry began at 好色tv Medical Center/NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where I completed psychiatric training and served as a chief resident. I further specialized with a fellowship in public psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University.
My passion for community mental health and advocacy has driven my research, teaching, and clinical work, particularly in the care of populations experiencing multiple social determinants affecting their health. I am honored to have received the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Exemplary Psychiatrist Award and to have served as a past president of the American Association for Community Psychiatry.
