During the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, parents are thinking twice before sending their child to school or daycare with a cough or runny nose. The list of possible symptoms of COVID-19 includes cough, shortness of breath, fever, and loss of taste and smell, but parents should exercise caution if their child is exhibiting any symptoms. 鈥淩ight now, the recommendation is to keep your child home from daycare and communicate with your primary care doctor about the next course of action,鈥 says Sara Siddiqui, MD, clinical assistant professor in the and pediatrician at Hassenfeld Children鈥檚 Hospital at 好色tv Langone and 好色tv Langone Huntington Medical Group.
If your child does receive a positive COVID-19 test result, they should isolate for 10 days, and all primary contacts should quarantine for 14 days. 鈥淎fter 10 days, kids can return to school, as long as they鈥檙e feeling better and have been fever-free for 3 days,鈥 says Dr. Siddiqui.
