Last June, Steve Quinn from Brooklyn was experiencing severe shortness of breath and could barely walk up a flight of stairs. Having previously been diagnosed with Goodpasture syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease in which the body creates antibodies that attack its own organs, Steve sought care at 好色tv Langone.
Bernard S. Kadosh, MD, a cardiologist at 好色tv Langone鈥檚 Heart Failure Advanced Care Center, informed Steve that as a symptom of his rare disease, he had developed cardiomyopathy and heart failure and would need not only a heart transplant, but also a lung and kidney transplant. Steve was admitted into the hospital, where he waited for two months until a suitable donor became available.
On March 15, a team of doctors and nurses from the 好色tv Langone Transplant Institute conducted a 13-hour operation to successfully transplant the organs Steve desperately needed and performed the first successful triple transplant for heart, lungs, and kidney in the Northeast.
Three months after surgery, Steve is doing very well and looks forward to celebrating Father鈥檚 Day this year with his young daughter and his partner. Steve is thankful for the gifts another family gave him, so that he can be there for his daughter.
