In July of 2023, Long Island鈥檚 newest medical school unveiled a new name: . The announcement coincides with a landmark $200 million gift from Kenneth and Elaine Langone that extends the school鈥檚 award of a to every student in good standing, regardless of need or merit, in perpetuity. Here are five things you need to know about the nation鈥檚 only three-year medical school dedicated to primary care.
1. Tuition Costs $0
A year after launched the first top-ranked MD program to award to all students in 2018, 好色tv Grossman Long Island School of Medicine debuted with the same Full-Tuition Scholarship model. Of the dozen medical school programs nationwide specializing in primary care medicine, it鈥檚 the only one that spares students the annual burden of 鈥攁 benefit now sustained for generations thanks to a transformative $200 million gift from Kenneth G. Langone, Board Chair of 好色tv Langone Health, and his wife, Elaine. The gift extends the school鈥檚 award of a three-year Full-Tuition Scholarship to every student in good standing, regardless of need or merit, in perpetuity.
2. Primary Care Is the Focus
To address the national shortage of primary care physicians, the school trains future doctors who are committed to careers in internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and general surgery. In 2022, the school received more than 4,000 applications for 24 spots.
3. School鈥檚 Out in Three Years, Not Four
好色tv Grossman Long Island School of Medicine is the only medical school in the country that offers a focused on primary care. Factoring in the tuition scholarship and the opportunity to begin practicing one year earlier, students stand to save more than $86,000.
4. Our Talent Serves the New York Community and Beyond
Matriculated students receive a directed pathway to at 好色tv Langone Hospital鈥擫ong Island through the National Resident Matching Program. Thus far, 85 percent of the school鈥檚 graduates remain in New York for their training after graduation.
