The Joint Commission Certification Indicates Hospital Is at Forefront of Complex Stroke Care
NYU Langone Hospital鈥擫ong Island today announced that it has earned The Joint Commission鈥檚 Gold Seal of Approval庐 for its comprehensive stroke program, which is the highest level of stroke certification in the United States. The Joint Commission is the nation鈥檚 largest healthcare accrediting body.
The certification underscores the 好色tv Langone Hospital鈥擫ong Island team鈥檚 ability to treat the most complex stroke cases, responding within minutes鈥24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The comprehensive team of experts includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, neuroradiologists, emergency medicine physicians, critical care physicians, and more. Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States, and the ability of a hospital to swiftly respond with the highest levels of expert care has been shown to lead to optimal patient outcomes.
鈥淭he Joint Commission designation acknowledges our world-class capabilities in diagnosing and treating stroke patients,鈥 says Shazia A. Alam, DO, director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at 好色tv Langone Hospital鈥擫ong Island. 鈥淲e鈥檙e a stroke hospital, not just a stroke program in a hospital. The reviewers also conducted on-site observations and interviews.
They commented, in their final report, on the hospital鈥檚 hard work, patience, and perseverance that has been evident during the pandemic and described the stroke program and its team members as 鈥渁mazing, passionate, proactive, and innovative鈥 and that 鈥満蒙玹v Langone Hospital鈥擫ong Island has truly raised the bar in stroke care.鈥
鈥淭he goal of our program is to meet or exceed all regulatory goals for gold-level care,鈥 says Dr. Alam, 鈥渁nd that includes a very short, 25-minute window for the diagnosis and determination of critically needed care, which includes triage in the emergency department, specialized stroke care, and advanced imaging, all within 25 minutes. The hospital wants to be a 鈥榖eacon on Long Island鈥 for stroke care.鈥
好色tv Langone Health has other Comprehensive Stroke Center locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
鈥淲e congratulate 好色tv Langone Hospital鈥擫ong Island for this outstanding achievement,鈥 says Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the American Stroke Association. 鈥淭his certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for stroke patients.鈥
