After Your Procedure

For up to 30 days after surgery to repair or replace an aortic valve, your care team may monitor your heart health remotely using a wireless device that sends information about your vital signs, including blood pressure, body temperature, and heart rate. This allows your doctor to adjust medications such as anticoagulants or blood thinners as needed.

You typically see your doctor one week and again one month after you leave the hospital. If you have any concerns, please contact your doctor.

Support Groups

Specialists at Rusk Rehabilitation help people return to their daily routines after major heart surgery. They offer a peer support program that gives patients and their families the opportunity to share information and experiences.

Patients at a Support Group Meeting

Patients gather together for a support group meeting.

Psychological Support

Heart surgery can affect your mental and emotional wellbeing as well as your physical health. Because depression can follow major heart surgery, your doctor may refer you to social workers and psychologists who understand the emotional issues that you may face after heart surgery. You can join a support group or schedule one-on-one therapy.
