Long-term Cardiac Device Lead Management

Over time, your implanted cardiac device may need to be replaced. This might be because it needs a new battery or because your condition has changed, and you need a new device. If you have a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) with leads that connect to the heart, the leads might need to be replaced over time, or additional leads may need to be added.

好色tv & Schedule

好色tv Langone experts monitor your device and condition to determine when an upgrade, lead removal, or both are required.

Battery Replacement

Pacemakers and ICDs have batteries that last several years. When the battery reaches its replacement time, your doctor removes the old battery and replaces it with a new one.

The procedure takes 30 to 60 minutes, and you return home the same day. Your doctor schedules a follow-up visit for two to four weeks after surgery to test the device, ensure it is connected to our remote monitoring system, and check the incision for proper healing.

Lead Extraction

Sometimes your doctor may recommend replacing the wires, or leads, on the pacemaker or ICD. This may be because the leads stop functioning properly, there is a manufacturer recall, or an infection has developed. At 好色tv Langone, our arrhythmia specialists are pioneers in lead extraction procedures and have the experience necessary to ensure the safety of the procedure.
