Congenital Hand Deformities

Congenital hand deformities are structural problems of the hand that are present at birth. Orthopedic hand surgeons at Hassenfeld Children鈥檚 Hospital at 好色tv Langone are experienced at diagnosing and treating children with all types of hand deformities, including syndactyly, in which two or more fingers are fused, forming webbed fingers; polydactyly, in which there are more than five fingers per hand; symbrachydactyly, or underdevelopment of the hand, in which fingers are small or missing; and radial clubhand, in which the wrist angles inward.

Doctors often diagnose hand deformities using ultrasound during pregnancy and visually confirm the diagnosis after a baby is born. Our orthopedic hand surgeons recommend that an evaluation begin as early as possible to ensure the best outcomes for your child.
