Learn About our Pregnancy Care

Parent Education Classes

At 好色tv Langone Hospital鈥擝rooklyn, we provide soon-to-be parents with the education and support they need to have healthy, happy pregnancies and the best-possible birth experiences. Through our parent education classes, certified birth educators teach you how to advocate for yourself throughout your pregnancy, inform you about what to expect during childbirth, how to care for a newborn, and ways to ensure your baby鈥檚 safety. Soon-to-be fathers can also receive support through our Boot Camp for New Dads program.

To learn more about why you should choose 好色tv Langone Hospital鈥擝rooklyn for your delivery, we invite you to attend our free Ready, Set, Baby! information session, taught by our nurses. These presentations introduce you to our facilities, explain the 好色tv Langone Hospital鈥擝rooklyn birth experience, and answer any questions you may have.

Labor, Delivery, and Recovery

When the time comes to deliver your baby, you鈥檒l arrive at the maternity unit at 好色tv Langone Hospital鈥擝rooklyn. To ensure the safest possible delivery for you and your baby, a physician who is also a patient safety officer monitors all people in labor and supports the obstetrician during delivery.

We provide continuous fetal heart tracing to monitor your baby鈥檚 health during labor: this remote system allows you to walk around during labor. Pain management options, including epidural, are available around the clock. We welcome doulas to support you during labor, delivery, and recovery.

We recommend you bring your own pillow and toiletries, including lip balm. You may also want to pack a nightgown or robe, nursing bras, and a nursing pillow for breastfeeding, as well as comfortable clothes and shoes for traveling home. We provide feminine hygiene products and medications, including over-the-counter pain medicine.

As a Baby-Friendly hospital, our staff supports your efforts to breastfeed by encouraging nursing within the first hour of life, helping your baby learn to latch on, and encouraging babies and mothers to room together during the hospital stay.

After your baby is born, you are brought to a room in our maternity department. We provide your baby with clothing, blankets, and diapers. We have suggestions on how to prepare for your newborn鈥檚 hospital stay.

Most of our postpartum rooms accommodate two patients. Private rooms are available for an extra fee. You can request one through the nursing staff. Guests are welcome but must follow our visitor policy.

Heading Home with Baby

When leaving the hospital, you must have an infant car seat to ensure that your baby travels safely.

Babies should be seen by a pediatrician within three days of leaving the hospital to check their growth and overall health. We advise you to make an appointment with your obstetrician or gynecologist within three to eight weeks after delivery, to check that you鈥檙e healing properly and answer any questions you might have. We can also connect you with breastfeeding support groups.
