Physiatry for Children

If your child has been diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder, a brain or spinal cord injury, or a condition that affects the musculoskeletal system, he or she might need medical care at the same time as rehabilitation therapy.

Pediatric physiatrists are doctors who diagnose your child鈥檚 medical condition and develop a treatment plan that takes both your child鈥檚 medical and rehabilitation needs into account. Physiatrists care for your child from the beginning of his or her illness or injury throughout the rehabilitation process. Rusk Rehabilitation specialists provide physiatry care for children at Hassenfeld Children鈥檚 Hospital at 好色tv Langone.

For children with ongoing medical issues, we can continue care until they reach adulthood, and then transition them to Rusk Rehabilitation鈥檚 adult programs.

Some of the conditions pediatric physiatrists commonly treat include the following:

  • acquired brain injuries
  • brachial plexus palsy
  • cerebral palsy
  • gait abnormalities
  • limb deficiencies
  • musculoskeletal conditions
  • neuromuscular disorders
  • spina bifida
  • spinal cord injuries
